Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long will the Energy Owl hardware store my electricity consumption data before I need to open up the Energy Owl software again?

A. The hardware will store data for up to 10 days. Any data transfer from the hardware after 10 days will be missing information. You can turn off your computer, go on vacation or whatever, and as long as you open up the software within 10 day's time all the collected data will be uploaded to your computer and stored on your hard drive.

Q. Will my power bill be exactly what my Energy Owl's Real Time Power Bill states?

A. No, but if working correctly it should be very close, within several KWH. Keep in mind factors such as the time of day that your utility meter reader performs a meter read. If you notice a substantial under-estimation by your Energy Owl, make sure the Usage Level is set to an appropriate setting.

Q. Will my utility company hassle me about my Energy Owl scanner stuck to the meter box?

A. As long as you don't effect the operation of the meter or block any readout of the meter, it is not a problem. The Energy Owl does not affect the operation of your meter, it simply "watches" it. Furthermore, the Energy Owl's mounting scheme was designed so that it will not cover up any display (dials, counters, or lcd displays) that the meter reader uses to record your usage.

Q. Will my Energy Owl hardware retain the collected data during a power outage?

A. No. The onboard memory in the Energy Owl hardware is volatile, meaning in an absence of power it will be lossed. If you experience frequent power outages or flickers, you may consider running your Energy Owl power adapter to a UPS (uninteruptable power supply). The Energy Owl's hardware clock, however, will retain its date and time in the event of a power loss situation.
